Introducing the 78 collection

Introducing the 78 collection

In 1978, wine industry stalwarts Kim and Jeanette Goldwater planted a vineyard on Waiheke Island, a decision that helped shape the island into one of New Zealand’s premier wine-producing regions. The Goldie Estate 78 collection honours their legacy, representing wines from our vineyard in their purest expression. These wines celebrate the Goldwaters’ vision of uncompromised quality and dedication to their craft, embodying the pioneering spirit that transformed Waiheke Island’s wine industry into what it is today.

Handpicked from selected, single vineyard sites, our oldest vines produce wines for the 78 collection only in exceptional vintages. The vineyards, carefully selected for their ideal terroir, nurture grapes of unparalleled quality. The result is a collection of wines that embody elegance, sophistication and the true essence of the land.

These wines are rare, very small production, and only produced in exceptional years.

CABERNET MERLOT 2019

Deep ruby coloured. Notes of cassis, red and black plum and floral violet scents followed by cedar spice and dried Herbes de Provence. Optimal ripe fruit and fine-grained tannins are supported by balanced oak, enhancing the overall texture and richness of the wine.

This wine will benefit from additional cellaring to enhance complexity, recommended 15 – 20 years.

SYRAH 2019

The 2019 Syrah is floral on the nose, with rose petals, pomegranate pearls, graphite and black tea. In the mouth, the wine is light and ethereal, spiced and fine. It flutters over a long, lingering finish that is layered with star anise and clove.

The Syrah ages gracefully with ease, and will reward careful cellaring, 5 – 10 years.
