We are thrilled to announce that we have just been awarded two Gold medals at the recent Romeo Bragato Wine awards in Marlborough.
The objective of the Romeo Bragato Wine Awards is to give recognition to viticultural excellence and to recognise the influence of grape growers and their vineyards in creating the unique qualities of New Zealand wines, by judging the wines made from grapes grown on such specified vineyards. Our winemaker Heinrich Storm says he is delighted by the result and the emphasis the competition has on the grape origins.Gold medals were awarded for the Goldie Estate Reserve Syrah 2014 and Goldie Estate Reserve Cabernet Merlot Franc 2013. This follows the two gold medals from 2013 and Heinrich believes there will be more to come in the future.
“There is a saying that good wine is made in the vineyard; this can’t be more true. The vineyard team did an amazing job to ensure we had the best grapes to work with at harvest time. These awards are a testament to the hard work the vineyard staff put into the vineyard, every day, come rain or shine. Their dedication enabled us to craft some stellar wines from the recent vintages. It is very exciting because we enjoyed perfect conditions for wine production in 2013, 2014 and 2015. To follow up the golds for our Syrah in 2013 just proves this variety is set to become the flagship wine for Goldie Estate in the future. I am also happy about the recognition received for Goldie Estate Reserve Cabernet Merlot Franc 2013. These are the original varieties the Goldwater family planted when they pioneered the wine industry on Waiheke Island in 1978, which shows the amazing vision they had for our vineyard.”
The whole team at Goldie Estate is excited to be sharing these wines with our customers. Watch this space for upcoming release dates of our award-winning wines!
